Tanning Before The
Event
It may seem
cold now but the warm sunny weather of summer is just
around the corner. It is not too soon to start thinking
about getting that golden tan.
Most of us live a fast paced life and do not have the
time to sit out in the sun for endless hours trying to
develop the perfect tan. Therefore, it would be a good
idea to consider indoor tanning to help achieve and
maintain your base tan.
According to Kristy Diggles, manager of Tan 2000, the
tanning process is the body’s natural defense against
ultraviolet light.
There are three types of ultraviolet light: UVA, UVB and
UVC. Only UVA and UVB are found in indoor tanning
equipment. UVB is the burning wavelength that is
necessary to stimulate the melanocytes in the skin to
produce the pigment that we associate with a tan. UVB is
limited to less than five percent in indoor tanning
equipment in an effort to lesson overexposure. This is
in sharp contrast to the higher level of UVB that one is
exposed to outdoors.
The two forms of ultraviolet light emitted by tanning
lamps are produced in controlled doses set forth by
governmental regulation. Obviously, there is no
controlled exposure to UV light once you begin to tan
outdoors.
Indoor tanning provides a controlled professional
environment in which burning and overexposure are
avoided. The certified tanning consultants at Tan 2000
instruct tanners as to how their particular skin type
may react to UV light and therefore set the proper
exposure schedule. The recommended exposure schedule
will take into account the individuals’ skin type and
previous UV exposure.
After beginning the indoor tanning process, the exposure
time of each session may gradually increase up to the
maximum allowed for that device. Establishing and
maintaining a tan should be a gradual progression and
one cannot rush the process without burning.
Although you may have developed a good base tan at an
indoor tanning facility, it is important to remember
that burning can still occur when you go out in the sun.
Variables including seasonality, time of day, weather
conditions, reflective surfaces and altitude all make
sunburn prevention more difficult. To minimize the risk
of burning while outdoors it is important to wear
sunscreen and try to limit prolonged exposure.
An alternative to UV based tanning is the UV free Mystic
Tan. Mystic Tan is a spray on process that evenly coats
the entire body with an aloe vera enriched tanning
solution.
Mystic Tan takes only seconds to apply and provides a
natural looking tan that lasts for days. Mystic Tan is a
great option for those who can not tan by traditional
means. Moreover, it provides quick color for weddings,
vacations and other special occasions when you want to
look your best.
In your quest for the perfect tan, it is important to
find a salon that is concerned about your individual
needs as a tanner.
Education about the tanning process is essential and
salon employees must be ready to provide answers to your
questions. Tanning can be fun and relaxing but remember
to always tan smart and never burn.
